Tattoo Aftercare

  • How long does a new tattoo take to heal?

A tattoo can take between 2-6 weeks to completely heal.
  • How should I care for my tattoo after leaving your studio?

Once your tattoo is finished it will be cleaned and wrapped for you. Leave this wrapping on for around 2-4 hours, until you get home.

After this, remove the wrapping and use lukewarm water to wash away any plasma. Never submerge your tattoo. Clean it using little splashes or a gentle shower head and clean hands, then air dry.

Keep your tattoo clean and dry for the next couple of days until it begins to scab/harden. Once this begins happening you can apply your cream; I recommend cocoa butter or Butterluxe Tattoo Balm which you can purchase at the studio. You only need to apply a small amount, 2-5 times a day depending on how dry your tattoo is. Continue to do this until your new tatoo is fully healed.

  • The "Do's" and "Do Not's"

DO: keep your new tattoo clean at all times.
DO: treat your new tattoo as you would an open wound and be careful with it, taking care to heal it as outlined above.
DO NOT: submerge your tattoo in water.
DO NOT: itch or pick your tattoo.
DO NOT: sleep with pets in your bed or on unclean bedding.
DO NOT: bathe your tattoo in the sun.
DO: use sun cream on your fully healed tattoo when sun bathing.
DO NOT: go to the gym / sauna / steam room / pool / sea etc until fully healed.
DO NOT: wear tight / fluffy clothes.
DO NOT: use any soaps / products on the area of your new tattoo.
DO NOT: get your new tattoo dirty or expose it to germs.
